I had a “Mother & Daughter” lunch date with my mom last Friday at Graze at Martin 38. Choosing the right place was my number 1 top priority, it should be one that is peaceful & relaxing but at the same time, serves good food. Graze at Martin 38 immediately came to my mind.

I remembered visiting Graze at Martin 38 a few months back with John, my long time friend of 25+ years and ex-colleague. At that time, we had the privilege to meet with owner Yenn Wong to discuss a potential collaboration for one of our client’s project. It was an insightful meeting all together.

After our meeting, I knew I had to go back to try their take on Modern Australian Cuisine but have not, until now. What a shame!

Back to our “Mother & Daughter” lunch date…

I was pretty excited to go with my mom that day. To me, trying something together for the first time has always been more special.

Mom ordered the Fixed 3-Course Lunch Set (S$28). *We had the dessert course of Valhrona Chocolate Cream changed to 1 more servings of the soup to avoid the sweets.

Toasted Shitake Consommé, Shimeji and Shiso

First came the soup course. The consommé was a good start, it was light and refreshing done towards the sweet side which I really liked. No complaints about the food, I just wished that they had a nicer bowl. lol!

Pan-seared Barramundi, Potato, Lemon Butter Sauce

The Barramundi was cooked perfectly, the skin was crispy and the meat was tender. The sauce was not too empowering either. A very well-made dish all together.

I on the other hand, ordered the more rugged burger dish to contrast with mom’s refined fish.

Wagyu Beef Burger, Shoestring Fries, Chimi Churri (S$20)

The burger came with an egg (yey!) – was totally unexpected. It also came with a generous amount of caramelised onions which I also liked. The shoestring fries on the other hand was fatter than expected but it didn’t bother me. The hero was the beef patty, it was tender, juicy and was cooked perfect to my liking. We both loved it!

It was a good overall experience as expected – the ambiance, the service and food. 5/5 stars for me.

I was a good bonding moment with my mom, talking about things we normally do – life, culture & travel. One topic that excites me the most is the idea of travelling to Scandinavia next month – I’ll keep my fingers crossed for this one!

I really feel so blessed to have such supportive parents that has always been with us, every step of the way. Love you much mom & dad!
